Megadeth in Atlanta

Posted in Music, Life on April 23rd, 2008 by Ian Malcolm

I went with my wife to see Megadeth in Atlanta on 4/20. The show was originally scheduled to be at the Tabernacle, but due to the tornado which hit downtown and damaged that venue, the concert was moved to the Masquerade Music Park.

It was a great show. We had a lot of fun, but we spent too much money!

The Circle Completed

“Well, what exactly have you told her we talked about?”

The Circle Completed.

Recorded in 97-98. I performed all the parts and recorded to 8-track. I used excessive tape compression on this composition. BOSS DR-5 for most tracks. Me and L.Grimm for the voice track.

Nearer the Grave

We all die, but often we do things that bring us nearer the grave (4.3MB).

This track was composed sometime in 1997-98. It was originally recorded to 8-track reel-to-reel, then mixed to cassette. I used a Boss DR-5 drum machine/synth to perform all the parts. I also used a Zoom 505 for effects on some of the tracks.

Tape Mix 01

While reviewing my old tapes, I have discovered that only 2 of the 4 contain what I expected. The other 2 were either mislabeled or recorded over, unfortunately. However, one of the mix tapes was a goldmine. I have digitally remastered a few songs that I am ready to post. Keep in mind that these are songs made by a 15-17 year old!

Got a 4-track cassette recorder today

I used to have one about 12 years ago. I had a lot of fun with it and filled up several master tapes and mixed quite a few as well. So of course I sold the thing and went digital in ‘98 or so, but I kept my old cassettes.

I recently discovered 4 of these tapes - one master and four mix tapes. So I ordered a Tascam Porta03 off of eBay and it showed up in the mail today. I about choked when I saw the package:

The post office squashed the box

I opened the box and was relieved to discover that the unit was intact. Very clean, and perfectly functional.

Soon I will be remixing some of my old music and then posting it here. Stay tuned!
